What Is A Capybara?

Capybaras aren't common pets, not common at all. You may be wondering "What even is a capybara?". A capybara is the worlds larges rodent. Capys are as big as dogs,no not the size of chihuahuas, the size of labadors. Capybaras are indoor and outdoor pets,by this I don't mean that they can be either. I mean that if you have a capybara it has a "doggy door" and can go outdoors as s/he pleases.

Potty

Capybaras won;t go potty in a litter box and they won't go in the yard like a dog. Cabybaras are water animals and spend lots of time in the water, they also do all of their pooping in the water. Some pooping goes straight from the rear to his/her mouth. Yes,they eat their poop sometimes. As gross as that seems, bunnies eat their own poop and so do may other animals.

Water

Capybaras are water animals and need a pool to swim in. With a pet capy,a pool is not optional. But,you might not want to go in the pool unless you have a good filter. Capybaras can stay under water for around 5 minutes.

In The Wild

In the wild capybaras can be found in groups as large as 100 living together but commonly live in groups of 10-20 with their family.

Cavy Or Hammy?

Many people say a capybara is a giant hamster but they are much closer related to guinea pigs. Capybaras are more distantly related to agoutis, chinchillas, and the coypu.

Food

Capybaras are herbivores meaning they only eat plants. Pet capybaras are fed fresh grass, grain, hay, and veggies.

Setup

A capybara setup is simple. Having a capybara is recremended for people who live out in the country because capybaras like lots of room to roam. To setup your home for a capybara get a good sized doggy door that leads into a large outdoor area for your capy with a pool. The pool must be around 4 feet deep(minimum,so no kitty pools) and 6 feet long by 3 feet but the more the better. A real built in pool for humans would be great. Obviosly there needs to be a fence. The fence can be setup like a horse area.
