If you would like to house more than one hamster together, make sure you follow the upcoming information. Only dwarf hamsters can live together, excluding chinese dwarfs. So syrians and chinese dwarf hamsters have to live alone. You may think that they would become lonely, but they really prefer to be alone. In the wild hamsters only come together for short periods of time to mate, and they stay away from each others burrows. You see syrian hamsters living together in petstores because they don't have enough space to house them seperetly and sometimes hamsters under eight weeks won't harm each other. If you have hamsters living together you should have an even number of hamsters because an odd number is more likely to "kick other hamsters out of the group". When this happens it means that the other hamsters may not let a hamster(s) drink, eat, sleep in certain places, etc. when you see hamsters fighting a lot you should put them is seperate cages for their safety. So if you want to have 2+ hamsters living in the same cage always have however many cages and you have hamsters in case you ever need to get them away from each other. One hamster needs 360 sq inches, two hamsters need 720 sq inches, etc.
