So, bathing your hamster is easy! Just run some ice cold water(water isn't hot in the wild) and get you hamster soaked! Run lots of water through his/her eyes and head so that gunk doesn't form. WAIT!!!!! I'm 100% kidding! Bathing your hamster should NEVER involve water! People giving their hamsters baths can be a big problem! Hamsters can drown, get hypathermia, get wet tail, become overly scared, and more. Just because us humans take baths does not mean hamsters should. The only time hamsters get into water in the wild is when they have to in order to get away from a predator, that is why they do have the ability to swim, if they need it. Soap and shampoo can also irratate a hamter's skin or get into their eyes. You don't really need to bathe a hamster, they clean themselves like cats do, they do not need your help. A hamster will very rarely stink or become very dirty anyways.

If you would like to bathe your hamster, there is a sulution! It's called sand bathing! Your hamster actaully often does it on it's own, without your help. You can buy chinchilla sand bath from the pet store, or you can use children's play sand. To get rid of any parasites, you can freeze or put small amounts of the sand into the oven. You only need to do so with children's play sand but you can do it with other sand as well, just to be safe. Never use chinchilla dust, as that isn't safe for hamsters. Let your hammy roll around in the sand, if he/she won't you can put a little pit on them and help them out a bit. You can keep it in their cage or only do it for small amounts of time. You can put the sand in a small tub or bowl. Some hamsters will use the sand as a litterbox, this can help you keep the cage cleaner...but it kind of defeats the purpose of the sand bath. If you don't like your hamster going potty in it's sand bath just don't keep it in their cage for long periods of time.

Remember to keep your hammy clean and keep your hammy safe!
